Visa Information

Immigration Status for International Students in Special Intensive Programs

International students have two immigration options depending on the length of time you choose to study in Canada.

VISITOR'S VISA

If you are certain that you will study for less than 6 consecutive months, you need only apply for a Visitor's Visa from the Canadian Immigration service. Please note, a person arriving on a Visitor's Visa cannot study for more than 6 consecutive months . Visitor's visas cannot be changed to a Study Permit from within Canada.

STUDY PERMIT

Persons planning to study for more than 6 consecutive months are required to obtain a Study Permit from Immigration Canada. The first application for these documents must be made before arriving in Canada. For more information, you may consult our immigration counselor.

In order to apply for these documents, students must have a letter of acceptance for more than 6 consecutive months. To obtain such a letter, students must choose the one year option when applying to the Intensive Program. A letter of acceptance will then be issued for one year.

Visitor's Visas cannot be changed to a Study Permit from within Canada. Accordingly, we urge you to apply for one year if you foresee the possibility of studying for more than 6 months.

Here are some documents you will need to bring to the Canadian visa office in your country when you apply for a Study Permit:

1. A Letter of Acceptance from the school to a full-time English program;

2. Written proof that you have paid at least a portion of your fees;

3. A certificate of medical insurance;

4. Proof of sufficient funds for living expenses and tuition for the time you will be in Canada;

5. A valid passport.
